THE Royal British Legion Damerham and Western Downland Branch has won the welfare contribution award for second time.

This comes after the branch donated £1,700, to the Welfare Fund last year.

In 2018, the branch donated £2,000 towards the RBL Hampshire and Isle of Wight Welfare Fund, which provides lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families in Hampshire.

It was presented with the RBL’s Wells Rose Bowl at the county’s annual general meeting.

Branch secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Richardson said: “We are all thrilled at this significant recognition of our fundraising success. Our branch members live in the rural villages of Damerham, Martin, Rockbourne and Whitsbury, and whilst we have recently attracted some new members, we’re very keen to have more.

“Anyone in the area is welcome to join us and previous service in the Armed Services is not necessary. Becoming an RBL member makes a hugely valuable contribution to the Legion’s vital welfare work.”
