BURBAGE & DISTRICT MODEL RAILWAY CLUB (BDMRC)

AT its last meeting the club made progress on its project to recreate the Savernake High Layout. This project will require much more work and expenditure over the coming months but the club is sure that it will make a great contribution to the local community as it represents part of its railway heritage and much of it is still within memory of so many people.

Work during this session concentrated on three areas; the first was the electrical system which is getting more complex while the second continued laying out the scenery. Building construction is also fairly well advanced and is comparable to the original, both demolished and others that remain to this day.

Models of some of the buildings have now been finished, which can be compared to what remains. These include the old station building, the then Lord Ailesbury’s waiting room, signal box, platform and the water tower. Not all are complete and some still require much work before installing onto the layout.

Our next Club session will be held on April 20 starting at 7pm. We are uncertain about the April session due to coronavirus and will keep this under review.

We can arrange availability of working layouts and demonstration of modelling techniques at local village fairs and other Community gatherings. Organisers are invited to contact us regarding their requirements.

The Club welcomes new members and any donations and gifts of unwanted model railway items. So, if you would like to try your hand at this hobby or have some equipment you are not using, please feel free to call Sonny Hamid, on 01672 811 933.

The club is an informal gathering of enthusiasts interested in the subject and it meets at least once each month, usually on the third Monday of the month. We invite folk from Burbage and the surrounding villages to join us in this exciting hobby. Currently our membership includes residents of Burbage, Collingbourne Kingston, Great Bedwyn and Milton Lilbourne.
