AN anxiety sufferer says his life is being made a misery by years of drug-taking in the block of flats where he lives.

Stephen McArdle went to the police four times in March, reporting people banging at his door, shouting in the early hours and the lingering smell of marijuana at Wesley Court in Royal Wootton Bassett.

But he claims the force is not doing enough to clamp down on the problem – one he says will only get worse now the UK is on lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The 58-year-old said: “It has been going on since I moved here, there’s been a lot of cannabis smoking for years and years.

“For the last year I’ve been trying to stop it because its becoming an issue.”

Mr McArdle told the Adver that as well as his own anxiety, he is worried about other neighbours who suffer with asthma or have children.

He said: “I’ve tried so many times to do something, the police have come out a number of times but take no action.

“Just a couple of weeks ago there was a commotion here, someone kicked my door and there was a lot of shouting at 5am. Nothing came from that with the police.

“It’s just been going on for too long and it’s unacceptable in these times.”

With people now only allowed out of their homes to work, exercise or buy essentials once a day, Mr McArdle feels there is no escape.

“I’m trapped in here," he said. "I’m not the only one who reports it, others who live here have, so I don’t understand why nothing is being done."

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: “We have encouraged the man to report the issues as and when they are happening so we are able to deal appropriately.

“We always encourage people to report suspected drug activity in their neighbourhood as it helps build up an intelligence picture so officers can take the most appropriate action.”
