SWINDON and Wiltshire Pride has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Organisers of the LGBTQ+ celebration announced yesterday that the 2020 event won’t be going ahead as planned at Town Gardens because of the pandemic.

It would have been its 12th anniversary.

The event began in 2008 and saw record numbers last year, with more than 10,000 people taking part in the Old Town festivities.

Nationwide Building Society, Thames Water and Unison have agreed to rollover sponsorship for 2021.

A spokesperson for Swindon and Wiltshire Pride said: “After some deliberation and after seeing the events of the past few weeks unfold, we have taken the unfortunate decision to cancel Swindon and Wiltshire Pride 2020.

“As a committee we believe that given the current state of emergency, the uncertainty of the next few months and the importance of staying safe, we feel that it is not right for us to continue planning this event.”
