TWO people were arrested after a large quantity of cash and Class A drugs were seized during proactive patrols in Trowbridge yesterday (Tuesday, April 7).

PC Storm Brand, from the Trowbridge Area Community Policing Team, stopped two people in Charlotte Square and carried out a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

He also searched their vehicles, finding cash and a knife, before a search was carried out at a nearby property.

Around £6,000 in cash and £5,000 worth of what is believed to be crack cocaine and heroin were seized. The drugs had been concealed in false Coca Cola and baked beans tins.

A 24-year-old man from London and a 29-year-old woman from Trowbridge were both arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and possession of a knife in a public place.

They were taken to Melksham Police Station, interviewed, and have since been released under investigation while police continue their enquiries.

Sergeant David Hambly said: “This is a great example of proactive policing and demonstrates that, even in these unprecedented times, we will not overlook Class A drug supply offences which have such a destructive impact upon our communities.

“Crack cocaine and heroin in particular destroy lives and blight entire communities through increased crime and anti-social behaviour and those involved prey on the vulnerable.

“We simply will not accept or tolerate this and will make every effort to bring those involved to justice.

“Community intelligence is vital in this endeavour and I would urge that anybody who is aware of drug activity in their area to contact 101 – you can be assured that any information you give will be treated with the utmost discretion.”
