Officers on patrol in Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade have issued a reminder warning people against non-essential travel.

Posting on Facebook, police said officers had visited a number of businesses where people were buying non-essential items.

The post said: "RWBCPT T2 is out on patrol today and have visited a number of businesses still operating in our area.

"They have spoken to a number of people this morning who are still making non-essential journeys to get non-essential items.

"Please can we remind EVERYONE to adhere to the government guidelines that are STILL in place over this Bank Holiday weekend.

"The team have got their tickets books with them should they need to use them. The fine for not following the guidelines will be a £60 ticket and that will make for a very expensive non-essential trip!

"It is EVERYONES responsibility to follow these guidelines and NO-ONE is exempt from this."
