POLICE urged homeowners across the county to be vigilant after receiving reports of burglaries over the Easter weekend.
One involved a window of an empty house on Highworth Road being smashed and the house being searched between 8pm on April 11 and 1.30pm on April 13.
Similarly, a neighbour on Savernake Street reported concerns to the police after another house on the street was broken into. The lock on a front door was smashed off and the door left wide open.
Det Supt Chris Hanson said: “Other than key workers, most people are currently at home for the majority of the day so we believe criminals may be looking specifically for homes that appear to be empty. This could be because they are currently being renovated, they may be second homes or holiday homes.
“If this relates to you, please ensure these homes are left secure and any valuables, such as power tools are removed. I’d also urge neighbours to be vigilant – if you see any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, report it to 101, or 999 if you believe a crime is in progress.”
