A backstreet barbers has been closed by police and the council.

The men's hairdresser had been operating from his house in Gorse Hill.
On Facebook, Swindon Police said: "Reportedly, the male was very busy with customers coming and going on a regular basis."

Under the government's coronavirus rules, published in March, hairdressers, barbers, beauty and nail salons and tattoo parlours were ordered to shut during the lockdown in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

The rogue Swindon barber has been served with a prohibition order by the borough council after, police said, he "continued to show a disregard for the coronavirus regulations".

The barber is yet to be named by Swindon Borough Council.

The prohibition order had been made under powers given to councils by the new coronavirus regulations.

He is not the first the first hairdresser to be handed a prohibition order. Earlier this month, Greenwich Council announced it had closed a barber shop in the London borough that had stayed open during the lockdown
