TIME TO PULL TOGETHER

I find the song You’ll Never Walk Alone very moving and it fills me with tears.

We are supporting those who have lost loved ones and those in the NHS who have looked after them.

My two daughters-in-law play a big part in this outbreak. One is a Staff Nurse in an old people’s home and the other one is a pharmacist.

She tells me that sometimes people are fighting over drugs. These two people are putting their lives in danger to help others, like so many others do.

One of my sons is self-employed (builder) and has had to stop working. He is only too pleased to be able to self-isolate with his family.

I don’t think that I shall see any of my family this Christmas. I have not seen them for months.

I have been told by the NHS to self-isolate for 12 weeks. Luckily I am with my husband.

Times are tough for everyone, so remember that we must all pull together or we ALL go down.

FINANCIAL ARMAGEDDON

To be honest I have given up on all the daily doom and gloom on the media regarding the virus.

I cannot comment on all the so called experts conflicting opinions .But I can comment on my many years of human experience.

In general the British public are law abiding citizens.

However there becomes a time, it is called human nature. When you ask your self is too much of the medicine killing the patient?

I refer to that piece of plastic with our sovereigns head imprinted upon it. God Bless her. Normally referred to as money, cash, readies, you name it.

My point? Try living without it. If this so called lockdown continues much longer particularly regarding young men with families and mortgages or rents as well as food and utility bills to pay.

I fear a backlash of unprecedented discontent on our island. I hope and pray to God I am wrong.

But when I cast my mind back to my financial position with a large family and a large mortgage thirty eight years ago in the present situation. I have immediate concerns regarding this financial fast approaching Armageddon.

MECHANICS WAS ALIVE

The Mechanics’ Institute was once the centre of railway workers’ enjoyment and entertainment. Now it is dead! Or is it?

If owners of property do nothing to maintain a property, they should be fined or bankrupted, as if they had failed to pay their rates or mortgages.

Good luck to the authorities wanting to breathe some life into the old girl and revive the Mechanics to its former use.

Many years ago I was a member of the Western Players, a drama group affiliated to the Mechanics.

Our group loved the facilities of the playhouse, and hoped the enjoyment was shared with audiences.

Alas those days are gone but our memories live on. Reviving the Mechanics might be a nice to have project, and serious thought should be given to keeping the history of Swindon alive for future generations.

The Mechanics was a living entity and does not deserve to be a museum.
