Fayth Ifil belted out Tina Turner’s classic Proud Mary on last week’s Britain’s Got Talent .

She will now go straight to the live semi-finals after blowing away judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden, and receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

Despite her success the 12-year-old was subjected to negative attention frome some in the media.

She told the Adver: “I’ve struggled in the past when I’ve received some negative comments but I’ve learnt how to overcome that negativity and it’s made me a stronger person. I’ve got the support of my parents to draw on and I try to use my music to empower myself and others in response.”

During the audition Simon, who pressed the golden buzzer, told her “I absolutely love your personality. You could sing the phonebook. That was an amazing audition. If anyone ever says anything negative, you remember this moment.”

Fayth’s mother, Lorraine added: “It can be almost like the playground again. It’s something Fayth has experienced before in a school environment when she started to do things in the limelight and people started to hate on her a bit - that’s what got her down.

“So we’re used to telling her to rise above it and look at the positive of where she is and what she’s doing because that's the great thing, what’s she’s doing now. There will always be those people who have that negative opinion no matter what you do.

“The opinions of people will always be with you regardless and it’s how you are as a person that counts, in terms of do you dwell on it or do you rise above it and keep going and reaching for your dream?”

Fayth, the daughter of ex-Swindon Town favourite Jerel said life has become hectic since her audition aired last weekend. “The press attention has been quite weird. I’ve been doing loads of interviews. Typing my name into Google and seeing it come up is so weird. I just keep thinking this can’t be happening.”

Fayth, who was born and grew up in Swindon thanked everyone who is supporting her through the contest. “I just want to make people happy with my singing, especially throughout this time, so to be able to do this makes me happy too.”
