THE headteacher of a Bradford special school has been boosting morale by donning different fancy dress costumes each day during lockdown.

Colin Douro, head at Ash Valley College, Ellar Carr Road in Thackley, has brought smiles to his pupils and fellow teachers alike with his creative costumes.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

His costumes so far have included Beetlejuice, toilet roll thief, Minnie Mouse, Karate Kid, a Bridezilla and Spiderman.

He said he wore a Christmas jumper on the first day of his fancy dress challenge and it has quickly snowballed since.

Mr Douro said: “I have had to be in school every day (as we've remained open during holidays) and for the amusement of the staff and pupils I've been going in fancy dress.

“I’ve been wearing a different outfit each day. Yesterday was my 41st day.

“Bridezilla was pretty horrific. I borrowed a friend’s wedding dress and wore full make-up too.

“I had my birthday last week and I dressed up as a fortune teller.

“It’s been quite good fun. It keeps me occupied, coming up with new ideas. I already have enough new ideas for costumes for each day next week.

“I have been ordering plenty of costumes from Amazon and people have given me some too.”

Ash Valley College has had around six students, aged between 11 and 16, coming into school each day during the lockdown period.

Due to the fact that he works with vulnerable pupils it means Mr Douro is at a higher risk of infection.

Therefore, he has made the decision for me to not see his own children; Ava, nine, and Fleur, six, during lockdown, which he says has been incredibly hard.

Here are a few of the costumes he has worn so far:
