A SPRING clean of the streets of Bradford city centre has continued today in preparation for the end of the lockdown.

The programme of hot-washing and chewing gum removal by the Bradford Business Improvement District (BID) in its first year had to be delayed in March because of the coronavirus restrictions.

Clean-up work has taken place today in Market Street. Bradford Bid tweeted: “That Market Street boxed off! A tricky street due to bus shelters and busy throughout of people. All clean.”

Speaking earlier this month, BID manager Jonny Noble said: “We have rightly observed the guidelines to the letter but the easing of restrictions means that we can now crack on with our work ensuring that the city centre will present the right image when it’s able to welcome visitors and shoppers again.

“Our sub-contractors have been fully risk-assessed, their teams wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to all the guidance on social distancing and so are perfectly placed to recommence this vital work safely.

“We can also take advantage of the quieter streets to press on with minimal disruption and make good progress.”

The hot-washing and chewing gum removal in key footfall areas will take place in tandem with deep-cleaning and graffiti removal in some of the city centre’s “problem” areas.
