PHILIP Davies says he can understand why people are getting upset after senior government advisor Dominic Cummings faces allegations he breached lockdown restriction.

The Conservative MP for Shipley says it is a matter for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to decide who he has as his advisors, amid calls from the media and other MPs for Mr Cummings to leave his post.

This follows weekend allegations that Mr Cummings made more than one journey between London and Durham last month.

Mr Cummings refused to answer questions on the fresh allegations from reporters and TV crews outside his London home this morning.

Yesterday, he and the government had said he acted "reasonably and legally" in response to the original claims that he drove 260 miles from London to County Durham with his wife, who had coronavirus symptoms.

Mr Davies said: “I fully understand why people are upset and concerned.

“The thing that British people believe in more than anything else is fairness. If they (public) are being asked to follow the rules, people in authority should be following them in the same way.

“I don’t personally know the details of the situation and I have learned over the years not to judge a situation before I know all of the facts. I understand how it appears.

“Who the Prime Minister has as his advisors is not something I am in control of. They are decisions for them to take.”
