A PROBATION error was blamed for another delay in the case of a Swindon woman expected to be sentenced for perverting the course of justice.

Tanya Iles, 34, formerly of Affleck Close, Toothill, was due to be sentenced at Swindon Crown Court yesterday. She has already admitted a single charge of perverting the course of justice by lying in a police statement on July 15 last year.

But Judge Peter Crabtree was forced to adjourn the case for a fortnight after it emerged no pre-sentence report had been written by the probation service.

Matthew Harbinson, who appeared for Illes, told the court that the probation service had written to his client at the wrong address and it had not been possible to arrange an appointment for her to see an officer so a pre-sentence report could be written up. He added: “The mobile number they confirmed with her was the incorrect mobile number, despite the fact according to my collage we provided the correct one.

“That’s the situation. Miscommunication and an inability to get hold of her.”

Adjourning the case to June 8 for sentence, Judge Crabtree said it was important Iles attend as the charge she faced was a serious one.
