A WOMAN was taken to hospital and a 19-year-old man was arrested following a car crash near Yenston last week.

Part of the A357 was closed following the incident, as two cars were left in flames.

At around 3.20pm on Thursday, May 21, a Vauxhall Corsa travelling along Langham Lane in Gillingham reportedly failed to stop for police when requested.

It was then reported the vehicle was involved in a crash with another car on Yenston Hill in Somerset. Officers attended, along with firefighters, as one of the vehicles’ engines was smoking.

Dorset Police said a female passenger was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

It was reported that the driver fled the scene on foot. Following searches, a man from Wincanton was later arrested on suspicion of driving offences and released under investigation.

On the day of the incident, a statement on the North and East Dorset Rural Police’s Facebook page said: “North Dorset officers alongside the No Excuse Team are assisting Avon and Somerset officers at an road traffic collision on the A357 at Yenston.

"Driver fled the scene on foot but was located by police and is currently helping police with their enquiries.The road is closed and road closures are in place.”
