Wiltshire Trading Standards has taken to social media to warn of NHS test and trace service scammers.
The fraudsters call unsuspecting victims from a withheld telephone number claiming they have been in close proximity to someone with coronavirus. The callers say they are not able to say who has tested positive as it is confidential information.
The fake callers will then ask for the person’s bank details so they can charge them for a £500 coronavirus testing kit.
Wiltshire Trading Standards said call handlers from the NHS Test and Trace service will not ask for bank details or payments, ask for details of social media accounts, ask you to call bank a premium rate number or set up a password or pin number over the phone.
All NHS Test and Trace calls come from the number 0300 013 5000, they said.
