Reopening the Lydiard Park cafe is a priority for Swindon Borough Council as lockdown eases across the UK.

Outdoor events are also on the priority list but there is no update on when the Steam museum or Lydiard Park House will reopen.

Both locations have been closed since lockdown began in March with car parks at Lydiard Park being blocked to prevent people visiting the area.

Councillor Dale Heenan, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for culture and heritage, said: “The council's focus remains on helping businesses reopen, and supporting vulnerable residents through these difficult times.

“The priority for Steam and Lydiard is seeing the return of the cafe at Lydiard for takeaway services, and hosting outdoor events, which brings in visitors and income, rather than a complete opening up on day one.

"The fields around Lydiard remain open, and we will shortly be opening up public toilets again.

“Good progress is being made and I hope other events can be announced shortly for July and August.

"Art on Tour is finding new creative ways for local families to interact with our art collection and museum artefacts."
