Two men were rushed to hospital having taken what is suspected to be animal anaesthetic stolen from a vets surgery.

Police issued a warning to addicts after the burglary at the surgery in Basingstoke overnight on Monday, June 29.

One of the liquid preparations if inhaled, consumed orally or injected could cause a severe reaction that could prove life threatening. It comes in a bottle branded 'Iso-Flo' and contains Isoflurane.

Two men suspected of taking the drug - a horse and dog anaesthetic - have been admitted to hospital. One, 50s, is in intensive care.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: "If anyone is offered these drugs or has any information about their whereabouts, please call 101.

"If you find any suspicious drug packaging, bottles or cannisters discarded, we would also ask that you don’t touch them but call us on 101 and we can arrange to pick them up safely."

Two Basingstoke men, aged 36 and 47, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary in connection with the break in at the vets surgery.
