AFTER much anticipation, hair salons finally reopened for the first time since March this weekend.

But with social distancing, PPE and lots of sanitising, what was it like for customers and staff?

JAS Hair salons in Salisbury, Wilton and Parkwood Health Club were open both days from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Owner Jayne Prigent said: "It felt quite relaxed because we've got to extend the time booked out in between customers to make sure we're cleaning and sanitising everything - the chairs, work stations, all the equipment so it seems much calmer.

"Our customers have been brilliant, queuing up outside all two metres apart... it's gone really well."

Salisbury Journal:

Although not being able to open alongside shops was "disappointing", the decision "worked really well for us" as it gave people the time to adjust to the new measures and feel confident to go back out.

The government's decision to keep beauty salons shut for longer also "worked in our favour", said Jayne, as it allowed them to concentrate on the hairdressing side of the business.

"Our guests haven't had their hair done in four months, for them to have their hair cut and coloured and be pampered, they felt like a million dollars," she said.

Across all three sites, 208 customers were able to get their hair done over the weekend - plenty more booked in appointments for the days and weeks to come.

She added: "I'm amazed at how it felt like going back to how it used to be, we got used to the new way with all the PPE but actually, it's quite alright and there's a lot of positives."
