A man caught beneath a car in Old Walcot kicked out at a police officer who was called to the scene.

Wiltshire Police said officers were called to Upham Road just before 4pm on Sunday following reports of two men trying car door handles.

When police arrived they found one man stood near the Swindon Sea Cadets’ hall and another beneath the chassis of a car parked on a driveway.

A police spokesman said: “When officers attempted to move the man from underneath the vehicle he kicked an officer to the leg several times.”

One man, 40s, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference and possession of a razor blade. The second man, also in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference, disorderly behaviour after he allegedly verbally abused paramedics, damaging a police van and assaulting an emergency worker.

Both men were taken to Gablecross police station but have since been released on bail. Enquiries continue.
