The Wyvern Theatre turned the lights red in support of arts venues across the UK.

The show of solidarity came after the government announced a £1.57bn funding package to help locations such as theatres and museums deal with the coronavirus impact.

The theatre tweeted the images of the red lighting and said: "As we remain on ‘standby’ - tonight the Wyvern & the Arts Centre has been lit red.

"We welcome the announcement of government support for the sector but don’t have a date for live performances to recommence.

"We’re standing in solidarity with venues across the UK."

Swindon Borough Council cabinet member for culture and heritage Dale Heenan said: "The headline news about £1.57bin of grants and loan is welcome, yet the devil is in the detail and there is no information available yet on who will be eligible or how to apply."
