THE owner of a new takeaway says he has the recipe for success despite launching his business during the pandemic.

Suman Pratheeban, 38, opened the doors of AFC Fried Chicken in Rodbourne Road when lockdown rules started to ease up.

He also runs the Costcutter store in Cheney Manor Road but says he spotted a gap in the market for a fast-food option that caters for everyone.

Suman said: “At the moment everyone is needing cheap food because everyone is in the same boat and is struggling, that’s why I wanted to open this takeaway.

“I’m giving people good quality food at a low price so they can still get a takeout, which is what people need during the coronavirus crisis.

“Everyone needs food – rich people, poor people and the homeless. It’s important that we help one another and that’s why I want to make it all affordable and give the best service.”

Suman's plans were delayed for three months after restaurants were forced to close their doors.

He said: “It seems people were quite excited about it opening up and my other business, Costcutters, is already doing very well despite everything going on.

"I’ve been running that for about six years now and it’s done really well.

“I love to run businesses, no matter what it is, so I could see myself opening up more places in Swindon. I’m feeling confident that even in a pandemic this will go well.”

Measures have been put in place to protect his customers when they go to collect their food.

A limited number of customers will be allowed inside, all surfaces will be cleaned regularly and Suman and his staff will wear personal protective equipment.

The takeaway serves pizzas, burgers and chicken and customers have responded positively with five-star reviews.

“It has been good so far, our first customers enjoyed their food and the service and I think we will see them return,” Suman said.
