BOSSES at a popular Swindon nightclub have called on customers to urge the government for support.

In a post on its Facebook page, The Edge nightclub in Bridge Street praised the government package for the arts but criticised the fact clubs and dance music are not included.

It said: “The government is making £1.57 billion available for ‘the arts’ in the UK to help it through this period of coronavirus. This is great news.

“Sadly it appears the government doesn’t consider our industry or dance music to be an art form.

“Imagine your favourite club not surviving this, or your favourite festival. Dance music is the cornerstone of the night-time economy and generates £66 billion a year and employs 1.3 million people.

“If you are a DJ, club owner, promoter, raver, clubber, bar staff, glass collector or cleaner this directly affects you.”

The management at Edge has been approached for comment.
