Budding engineers are invited to build their own self-powered, egg-transporting vehicle as part of the REME Museum’s summer challenges.

To be in with a chance of winning a £25 e-shopping voucher, entrants are asked to create a vehicle which can roll, slide or move, while safely transporting a standard chicken egg.

Recycled and household materials can be used, such as cardboard, plastic bottles, straws and lids but bought kits are not allowed. The vehicle must be made from scratch.

The competition runs from July 27 to August 31 and has categories for children aged seven and under, aged eight to 11, 11-16 and those who are older than 16.

Entrants under 16 years old will also receive a free entry ticket, when accompanied by a fee paying adult.

Education officer Andrew Skelton said: “This summer we wanted to challenge local families to create their own egg-transporting vehicle. While the world remains a bit different, this is a fun science, engineering, maths and technology project you can work on together at home. Why not create a vehicle as a family?

“To launch the competition and give you some inspiration, we will be releasing a YouTube video on July 27 showing how to make a simple self-powered vehicle using a rubber band. You’ll also find information about the competition on our website and social media accounts. Every child who enters gets a free entry ticket to the museum, so get cracking!”

To enter, send photos or videos of the vehicle in action to rememuseumchallenge@gmail.com along with information about the materials used. The museum will upload weekly Stem challenges during the holidays. Visit rememuseum.org.uk.
