PART of the M4 will again be closed in both directions for bridge works this weekend.

The motorway will be closed between junctions 5 and junction 6 as steel beams are lifted into place for the new Datchet Road bridge.

It closes at 8pm tonight (Friday, July 31) and will reopen at 6am on Monday (August 3).

The existing Datchet Road bridge will be closed with a signed local diversion in place.

Motorway traffic will be diverted via the A4 and A355 during the closure. Other traffic should follow local diversions. All diversions will be clearly signed.

More weekend closures are being planned in August as part of a project to upgrade the M4 between junctions 3 and 12 into a smart motorway.

It will be closed between junctions 5 and 6 again from August 7 to August 10 and then between junctions 6 and 8/9 from August 14 to August 17.

The upgrade to a smart motorway started in July 2018 and should be finished by spring 2022.
