DEACONS Jewellers is closing its branch in Royal Wootton Bassett.

The firm said the decision was accelerated by the coronavirus lockdown.

It has been in the town since 1974 but the doors will officially close next month, making five members of staff redundant.

Managing director of the business Richard Deacon said: “It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close this branch.

“It’s very emotionally draining to do this because you become familiar with the customers and the staff. Unfortunately, you have to make these decisions to ensure the business keeps going.”
