A man arrested in the wake of a north Swindon disorder has admitted possession of a blade.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Daniel Webdell, 33, of Groves Street, Rodbourne, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in a public place without reasonable excuse.

He was remanded in custody for a sentencing hearing at Swindon Crown Court on October 16.

His arrest followed reports of a brawl in Tadpole Garden Village at around 8.30am on Sunday, September 13.

Police said around five people had been involved in the disorder in Eglantyne Avenue and William Morris Way, with some witnesses reporting that a knife had been spotted during the incident.

By Sunday afternoon, four people had been arrested on suspicion of affray; three men and one woman.

In a statement, Insp Dave Tippetts of Wiltshire Police said there would be a heightened police presence in the area.

He added: “No doubt local residents will be concerned to hear of incidents of this nature taking place in their neighbourhood on a Sunday morning – we would urge anyone with information, including any dash cam or CCTV footage, to get in touch via 101. Any information could be significant to our investigation.”
