PM Boris Johnson announced earlier this week new coronavirus restrictions in a bid to reduce the number of positive cases across the country. Mr Johnson asked office workers to work from home if they are able to do so. A 10pm curfew on pubs, bars and restaurants across England is set to start tonight.

The prime minister said people working in retail, those travelling in taxis, and staff and customers in indoor hospitality have to wear face coverings. The planned return of spectators to sports venues will not go ahead from October 1. The fine for failing to wear a mask has now doubled to £200. Here’s what you told us on Facebook…

Steve Stimson: “We’ve never in our lifetimes gone through this so we’re all learning. At least their reactive as much as they can be.

“Done in the right way? Maybe not, it’s all a learning curve.”

Alexandra Mancari: “So, the government doesn’t want to compromise children’s education and rightly so. So why aren’t they promoting face coverings in secondary school classrooms?

“My son’s bubble is 200 because he mingles with a cocktail of other pupils to study different subjects.

“Kids are already bringing home the normal winter viruses, blatantly proving that the current measures aren’t working.

“Positive cases are rising between 10-25-year-olds. And in addition to this Boris Johnson stated that ‘children will not be a priority’ because they aim to ration tests in the coming months.

“I know of several kids that haven’t been attending school because they have standard winter viruses (which present with coughs and temperatures) while they await their Covid test results. Many of which will be negative.

“Thankfully, children don’t tend to get seriously unwell from coronavirus, but they do spread it, especially older kids.

“If we want kids to stay at school-surely, they must do more to reduce the spread of viruses altogether which means face coverings in classrooms.”

Carly Embling: “Completely agree that retail workers should have to wear masks. Us hairdressers, have been having to wear both a visor and a mask, in the summer heat, whilst standing, blow-drying etc for more than 12 hours!

“We all absolutely hate it, we are on our knees by the end of our shifts but we do it because we need to work, we don’t complain because the NHS staff have been doing it longer and in severe and awful circumstances compared to what we have to do! We just had to suck it up and get on with it!”

Derek Rutland: “Pubs to shut at 10, that will just get more people to go in before 10 and how will that stop it?

“And as for testing well I got told if I needed one I have to drive 70-ish miles to have one when there two tests stations less than a mile from me and one is doing nothing.”

Andrea Cable: “Again another set of rules layered with ambiguity and exceptions which will give those with a mind not to do all that they should to protect others from their own breath a way of doing so.”

Vikki Sparks: “So it’s a disgrace for retail staff to wear a mask for 6-8 hours a day but hospital staff wear them for 12-hour shifts!

“I am a carer and not once have I moaned! It’s not the most comfortable to wear when you have gloves, apron and a face shield on but we all have to do our part!”

Stephen R Brown: “So as it says no national lockdown, so why have people started buying trolley-loads of toilet tissue? Surely they are still using what they bought the last time.”
