A MAN in his 30s from the Warminster area has been released under police investigation after allegedly spitting at a police officer while in being taken into custody.

At around 10.30pm, officers were called to a report of a disorder in Yeates Field View in Warminster. A description of a suspect was given to officers who located a man matching this description.

The man appeared irate and intoxicated and he was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and placed in the back of a police car.

Whilst in the vehicle, he headbutted the window several times and so was removed and transported by a van to custody where he then spat at a police officer.

He was further arrested on suspicion of assault on an officer and drink driving.

Insp Dean Garvin said: “This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable at any time, but even more so at the moment whilst we are living in a global health pandemic.

“This man’s actions were completely reckless and selfish and left the officer feeling distressed and nervous about returning home toa young family given the current concerns around Covid-19.”
