AROUND half of the students at Wilkes Academy performing arts school have tested positive for Covid-19.
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus at the school at Westmead Industrial Estate jumped to 142.
Eight staff and 134 students have been diagnosed with the virus. The academy has about 260 students.
At least 85 positive cases were reported last Wednesday. And a further 25 Wilkes students had tested positive on Friday.
Face-to-face teaching was suspended on October 13 after a confirmed case of coronavirus.
Education manager Sara Mills told the Adver: “We do not know of students/staff with any new symptoms for over eight days now.”
