Pothole repair work in Penhill has come under fire from residents in the area. The bus stop outside the Deer's Leap pub on Penhill Drive was repaired on October 16 but the tarmac has since become misshapen. Residents say this is a botched job and feel Swindon Borough Council is not giving Penhill the attention it should.

John Payne, who lives on Bratton Close, believes the council prioritises smarter areas like Lawns or Tadpole Garden Village. A spokesman for Swindon Borough Council said the fix was only temporary to make it safe before substantial repairs could be made. Here’s what you said on Facebook:

Sandy Stephenson: “Walcot is just as bad, potholes are everywhere not just Penhill.”

Francis Taylor: “It’s not just Penhill it’s every road in Swindon that has potholes.”

Lyn Brooks-Lloyd: “There’s a lot in Highworth too.”

Natalie Rendell: “Not forgetting the rest of Penhill.”

Pauline Hobbs: “Every street in Swindon has lot holes.”

John Paine: “We know that and say every time that it’s the whole of Swindon!

“But this bus standing has been botched every year wasting £1,000s of your tax money.”

Katie Price: “The whole town is full of pot holes.”

Martin Costello: “Council tax going up and services going down.”

Alan Wilson: “Please report every pothole. Simply visit Swindon Borough Council website.

“Register and then report a pot hole. I do it all the time. They do fill them in albeit with a temporary measure rather than doing it properly. So get online and report everyone.

“No doubt, the system will crash with new notifications.

“Alternatively, contact Maureen Penny at Swindon Borough Council. She is the highways cabinet member for the council.”

Patrick Connolly: “I don’t mean to burst this man’s bubble but there are different classes living in Swindon.

“I think it’s fair to say that when you look at areas like Broome Manor or the Lawns you will probably find that close on 100 per cent of its residents are tax payers and most at the higher rate with a very low percentage on benefits.

“I bet if you looked at the same data from Penhill it would show a totally different story.

“That said though the potholes are bad in all areas it’s not just Penhill.”

Scott Sonatas: “Our weather fluctuates intensely from icy below-zero conditions to more than 30 degrees.

“This kills roads especially with buses and HGVs.

“But combined with the fact that contractors use cheap grade asphalt mix doesn’t help.”

Theresa Slobodzian Rogan: “There’s potholes everywhere in Swindon but all they do is fill them with bits of tar and then after a week later or less the holes are there again.”

William Miles: “Stop your moaning for god’s sake.

“It’s a road, get over it. You don’t like it? Don’t drive that way. 99.9 per cent of Swindon’s roads are dead anyway so it is no different.

“And for people going round cleaning up and stuff you’re all mugs. Why do you think the council doesn’t care?

“Because you have people out here doing their job for nothing so you only have yourself to blame.”

Cally Pearce: “Swindon is full of ugly botch jobs, was thinking it only last week.

“I guess they just don’t have the budget.”

Jim Presswell: “Potholes all over town loads on my street poxy council haven’t sorted.”

Jojo Archer: “We live in Penhill, we’re so hard done too.

“If you didn’t treat it like rubbish, maybe more would be done for you.”
