A PAIR of hair stylists proved they had the golden touch when they won top titles for their colour skills in a national competition.

Sophie-Rose Goldsworthy and Kasey Garrett were each up against 20 finalists in the Wella Trendvision 2020 contest.

Both work for Goldsworthy's, set up by Sophie-Rose's dad Peter nearly six decades ago.

She said: " “Neither of us had entered before but we had been to the competition to watch it. We preferred it being digital because it was less pressure and gave us a bit of leeway."

For the first round they had to submit an image of their work before being judged in the regional rounds by professional judges. For the final round, they had to complete a video entry where the brief was to do hair, clothes, styling and make-up for their client, adding a second video explaining their inspiration.

The 27-year-old from Old Walcott said: “I felt confident submitting it but then about a month in the doubts do start to creep in. Neither of us expected to win because thousands entered and it was judged by industry professionals.

“We all get on so well and we’re so close so it was great to do it with Kasey. I would like to try another category next time or other competitions. I shot all the photographs myself so I’m really proud of it.”

She won the colour specialist category while Kasey, 24, came top in the colour artist class.

Kasey from Old Town said: “Last year I went to Trendvision and was like 'Yep, this is what I want to do. I’m going to do this and enter to see how it goes'. So I entered not really expecting anything.

“Ever since I was little this is always what I wanted to do, as a kid I loved playing with hair, I’ve tried other things but would always come back to this. I didn’t actually tell anyone I entered only my boyfriend and sister. Everyone is mega proud, they just want to hug you but they can’t.

“I’m really proud of it all as it took 12 hours from start to finish. I would like to thank everyone from the team for their support and encouragement especially Sophie and Josh. Josh spent the day helping us with ideas and encouraging us. My sister Sammy did the editing for my video too.”

The salon hopes more award are on their way. Steven Goldsworthy, who is in charge these days, is the finalist for Trend Image of the Year.

And his son Josh, the third generation of the family in the business, is a finalist for Wales and South West Hairdresser of the Year, both for the British Hairdressing Awards.
