THE Trade Union UNITE has been busy making donations to support the work of local foodbanks in these difficult times.

The Mid Wales Branch have made donations to the foodbanks in Welshpool, Newtown, Machynlleth and Oswestry to support the vital work they do in making sure that people in our community do not go hungry.

“We salute the work that the food banks do in supporting people but wish that they did not have to do this at all. Not having enough to eat and not being able to feed your children is a terrible predicament to be in and any of us could end up in this situation, particularly in the current situation as people lose their jobs and wait weeks for Universal Credit,” said Harry Sillitoe, the Chair of UNITE Mid Wales Branch.

“We have members in over a hundred workplaces locally and we know how hard things are for people at the moment. We are doing our bit to try and support those who need it most.”

Harry and his wife Lynn, who is also a UNITE Member, have been on a socially distanced tour of local foodbanks handing the cheques over and in having a chat to the people who run and volunteer in the foodbanks. They have also been joined by other UNITE members at different locations.

“It is good to put something back into our local community” added Harry.
