A woman who hit 103mph down the M4 said she “didn’t realise” she was back in England.

Mariana Minea, 30, had just returned from Romania when she was caught doing more than 30mph above the speed limit in the early hours of October 25 last year.

She told Swindon magistrates: “The weather was alright. I had just come back from Romania. Everything was really late. I think I didn’t realise I was in England so I didn’t pay any attention to the speed, to be honest.”

Minea, of Innox Mill Close, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to speeding.

Imposing six penalty points and fining her £576, chairman of the bench Simon Wolfensohn said: “This was a serious speed, but having heard about all the circumstances of the case we feel it’s appropriate to deal with this by imposing penalty points on your licence.”

She was ordered to pay £110 costs to Wiltshire Police, which brought the prosecution, together with a £58 victim surcharge.
