News of today's shooting has stunned the Rodbourne community.

Police were called to reports of two men arguing in Summers Street in the early hours of this morning. 

A 57-year-old man was shot by armed officers. The victim was declared dead in an ambulance at 2.56am. 

Coun Jim Robbins told the Adver: "The people of Rodbourne are shocked and surprised to be waking up to this news.

"It certainly isn't what people expect in a community that is generally close-knit and supportive."

Chairman of central Swindon North Parish Council Stephen Henderson, added: “By any measure this is a tragedy, and we offer condolences to the dead man’s relatives and associates.
