Day trippers are continuing to flock to the Cotswolds during the second national lockdown, police say.

People have been ordered to stay at home for the next month in a bid to reverse the spread of coronavirus.

The government has published 32 pages of regulations including exceptions to the general stay-at-home message.

Specific reasons include for exercise, which you can take as many times a day as you wish.

But there is nothing in the law to state people cannot travel for exercise and there is no limit on the distance they can travel.

Whilst in patrols in Bourton-on-the-Water on Saturday, officers spotted day trippers from Swindon, Oxford, Shrewsbury, Sussex and London.

A spokesman for Cotswolds Police said: "We have been out engaging with the public and encouraging that travel for exercise should be as locally as possible.

"Day trippers from London, Shrewsbury, Sussex, Oxford and Swindon encouraged to consider exercising more locally!! No tickets issued.

"There is nothing in law to state people cannot travel for exercise and there is no limit on the distance they can travel in the legislation so we can only encourage people to not travel as far."
