A TEACHER has tested positive for Covid-19, causing two year groups to be sent home from a school in Highworth.

Pupils in Year 4 and 5 at Southfield Junior School, along with two other members of staff, will have to self-isolate for 14 days.

A spokesman for Swindon Borough Council said: “Public health colleagues from the Council are supporting staff at Southfield Junior School after a member of its teaching staff tested positive for COVID-19.

“The school is following the existing government guidance, including providing staff and students with advice on social distancing and hygiene to limit the spread of the virus.

“Procedures are in place to ensure the safety of all students and staff. As a result, pupils in Year 4 and Year 5 and an additional two members of staff who have been identified as possible contacts of the staff member concerned, have been sent home as a precautionary measure and will be self-isolating for the next 14 days.”
