OVER 300 new cases of coronavirus have been discovered in East Lancashire, the latest figures show.

The highest number of new cases came from Blackburn with Darwen, where 99 people tested positive for covid-19, according to Monday's data.

It means 8,600 people have contracted the virus in the borough since the start of the pandemic in March.

The second highest number came from Pendle, where a total of 4,123 cases have now been recorded following Monday's addition of 64 new infections.

Next was Hyndburn, where 54 new cases were detected. The area has now recorded a total of 3,233 infections.

In Burnley, 50 new cases were discovered, bringing the borough's total to 3,997.

Rossendale recorded the seconds lowest number of new infections, 26, meaning the area has now recorded a total of 2,833 cases.

In the Ribble Valley, where the fewest new cases were detected, 21 people tested positive for the coronavirus. The new infection rate means the borough has recorded 1,844 cases since March.

The figures are some of the lowest recorded in recent weeks.

Across the county as a whole 636 new confirmed cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
