A LOOK at the government’s interactive coronavirus map for Swindon shows how the pandemic has affected the town over seven days.

The data, which is part of the government's Covid data dashboard, shows where positive cases have been concentrated earlier this month.

And a sliding scale also offers a look at the historical data for Swindon since the start of the pandemic.

Going from yellow through to purple, the map shows the areas with the highest weekly infection rates per 100,000 people.

Areas in white are where the rates are suppressed as there are fewer than three cases, though no areas in Swindon or most of the UK currently have so few cases.

In the seven days to November 16, Swindon had a total of 422 cases – a drop of 48 from the week before.

The borough’s rolling case rate was 189.9, which is very slightly below the UK average.

Penhill had the fewest cases during the same period, with just three new positive results (down by one from the week before) and a rolling case rate of just 48.3, which is far below the national average.

On the other end of the scale, Central North had 45 new cases in that week (up 15 from the week before), giving it a rolling case rate of 426, which is much higher than the national average.

Outside the borough, Lydiard Millicent and Purton had a similarly high rise of 37 new cases in those seven days (up eight from the week before) and a rolling rate of 478.1 cases.

Lockdown does seem to be having an effect, as most areas recorded a dip in the number of new confirmed cases.
