AN ‘EYESORE’ piece of land which is a hotspot for anti-social behaviour is to be transformed as part of a £5million redevelopment plan.

Planning applications have now been submitted for maintenance and then construction work to begin on land off Sycamore Avenue in Gannow.

Should plans be approved, it is hoped that 20 two and three-bedroom homes and 21 apartments will be erected over the coming years.

According to the construction company in charge, Burnley-based Ring Stones, the site has been derelict for several years and branded an eyesore by locals, while also attracting anti-social behaviour.

A spokesman for the firm said they hoped the development would create a desirable new neighbourhood offering quality homes which will be ‘ideal’ for first-time buyers and growing families.

A further aim of the development is to create energy efficient homes for the future, using ethical and environmental standards of working.

A spokesman said: “Ring Stones pride themselves on supporting local suppliers and creating employment opportunities for both existing experienced construction workers and apprentices.

"In addition, Ring Stones will be providing training opportunities specifically for young people through the government's Kickstart scheme.”

James Macaree, managing director, said: “This project is an exciting and rewarding venture for everyone involved.

"Not only are we set to rejuvenate an area of Burnley which has long needed attention, we are also going to be doing it in a way that benefits the community by keeping everything as local as possible – from the workforce to supplies."

Further details will be announced in the coming months.
