A MUM is spreading some Christmas cheer and after releasing a festive song which has been listened to more than 8,800 times on YouTube.

Megan Strange released First Christmas a week ago after being inspired by the birth of her son, River, and is on a mission to pick everyone’s spirits up after this tough year.

She worked with her fiancé Simon Pearce, who filmed and edited the video – despite being a complete novice.

“It's a lockdown-themed video because I’m not a professional and everyone seemed down so I just tried to get it done at home to cheer everyone up,” Megan said.

“I did write it last year, shortly after River was born, but he can appreciate it more now he’s a bit older. I was exhausted being a new mum so I knew I couldn’t get a video together back then.

“It was a little odd doing it in August but I was worried about a second lockdown happening again before Christmas – and it did, so it was good job I did.”

And when she started seeing the numbers climb into four figures on YouTube Megan was over the moon.

She said: “I’m quite pleased with how it turned out because I was regretting telling people I was making a video because I was worried it was going to look very amateurish.

"I know it’s not exactly Spielberg or anything but I think for two people who have not worked with videos before we did a good job. It encapsulates Christmas and that’s what I wanted. If it makes someone smile then I’ve achieved what I wanted to.

“It’s been doing really well, so many people are watching it.

"Seeing how many views I got it was very surprising because anytime I put out an original it doesn’t get as much attention as a cover version does.

“The feedback has been really positive, people have commented on it and sent me messages, it’s a really nice feeling.

"I think with lockdown it does make it more special because this is the only song and music video I’ve done this year.”

But her biggest fan is River. When Megan played him the song it warmed her heart to see his reaction.

She said: “When I listen to it it makes me think of my son, I think of it as his song.

“He’s really into it, he loves music anything with a beat. He dances to it when it comes on which is really sweet.

“I think River recognises my voice because I did a lot of recording of music while I was pregnant with him so he is probably used to my singing voice by now.

“I really hope people watch the video and feel happy and get a sense of escapism.”
