Stratton St Margaret: The construction of a new estate of 15 houses on land off Wanborough Road has come one step closer.

Planning officers have signed off on 17 of the 26 conditions imposed on developers Ian Sullivan Architecture, when the company was given permission to build the 15 houses on the site of number 5 which is to be demolished.

The approved plans detail noise mitigations, contaminated land surveys, drainage layouts, materials to be used, the construction method plan, details of electric car charging and how the private street will be maintained.

The 15 houses will be laid out facing each other along a road running perpendicular to the main Wanborough Road,

Wroughton: Details of the restoration and changes to be made to a listed building almost destroyed in an arson attack have been approved.

Antony Sofroniou is the new owner of Brook House,12 The Pitchens, a thatched Grade-II listed cottage which was gutted when it was set on fire deliberately in March 2019.

The previous owners of the house were inside when the fire was started by a 15-year-old boy.

Mr Sofroniou won permission from the borough council’s planning committee – against officers advice – to rebuild the main part of the house with a thatched roof, but the smaller part – where the fire was started – with a clay tiled roof.

Details of how the upper storey and roof will be constructed, a report of restoring the masonry and how windows and doors in the rebuilt parts will look have been given the go-ahead.

New Eastern Villages: The developers of the 370-home Redlands Village – part of the major expansion of Swindon to the east have suggested a new primary school to be built there should have 58 parking spaces.

Vistry Homes and Bellway Homes have got permission to build the village which will include a school for 420 primary-aged children.

A new submission to Swindon Borough Council suggests the school should have 58 parking spaces, to be equally split between staff and parents, 66 cycle parking spaces for staff and pupils and there should be a school bus stop on the spur toad thorough the village.

Kingshill: A plan to build two flats on land behind 1 Turner Street has been turned down by planners.

No documents with further details of the proposal have been uploaded to the borough council’s website.

An application to build a two-storey side extension at 1 Honeybourne Walk in Covingham was refused because of the effect it would have on neighbours.
