Faringdon Road was closed in both directions by police after a "serious incident".
A police cordon is in place between the junction of Westcott Place and Park Lane and Maxwell Street. Faringdon Road was reopened at around 1pm.
An officer at the scene said: "There's been a serious incident in the early hours. We've got a scene along Faringdon Road at the moment."
No arrests have been made.
Detectives from Swindon CID are currently conducting house to house enquires. Forensics officers concentrated their investigations on a house on the corner of Cambria Place and Faringdon Road.

Police update
Police have released the following statement:
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "We are currently dealing with an ongoing incident on Faringdon Road, Swindon, following a male sustaining life-threatening injuries this morning (26/12).
"Officers were called to a report of a disorder in Faringdon Road shortly before 6.00am.
"A 34-year-old male has been taken to John Radcliffe hospital as a result of his injuries.
"A cordon has been set up at the scene and the investigation is ongoing. There is not believed to be any immediate danger to the public.
"Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 stating log number 47 of today’s date."
