IT has been suggested the government will go further in a bid to stop the spread of Covid-19.

During the third national lockdown people are required to stay indoors unless leaving for work or essential shopping. They can also meet one other person outside and exercise.

But, according to the Daily Telegraph, the prime minister spoke with senior ministers on Sunday to evaluate whether the current lockdown rules were working as coronavirus case numbers – as well as the death toll – continues to soar.

The Telegraph quoted a government source suggesting restrictions on exercise could be tightened while expressing concerns that people are using the allowance to socialise.

Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi has raised concerns that people are not complying with lockdown rules closely enough in supermarkets and when exercising amid suggestions the restrictions may need to be toughened.

What could tougher restrictions look like?

Tougher restrictions could include workers in offices being required to wear face masks as well as scrapping the rule allowing people to meet outdoors with one person outside their support bubble.

Expanding the use of masks across the country could also come into effect with people being asked to wear them in some outdoor places such as supermarket queues.
