THE date has been announced for this year’s Swindon and Wiltshire Pride celebrations.

The LGBTQ+ festival was cancelled last summer because of the coronavirus pandemic but organisers are hopeful the event will be able to go ahead on Saturday, August 7.

The charity’s community engagement manager Phoenix Stewart told BBC Radio Wiltshire: “We’re really looking forward to it.

“Back in 2019 we had over 10,000 people come along to Pride and enjoy themselves and celebrate who they are. It’s a family event anyone can come along and more importantly it’s free.”

Held in Old Town Gardens, the day will be themed around ‘We Are Family.’ Plans include live music, bars, stalls and an art zone, among other activities. The parade will start at 11.15am.

“We’re working hard now and we need to have a plan in place now to make sure it goes ahead,” said Phoenix.

“Everyone wants the event to return. We all need a bit of sunshine in our lives right now."
