A BUILDING firm boss caught doing 103mph on the M4 has been banned from the roads.
Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard Christopher Barnes, 44, was stopped behind the wheel of a red Range Rover on the motorway on January 5 last year. His speed was recorded by a patrolling police officer as 103mph – 33mph over the limit.
Representing himself, Barnes told the bench he’d been overtaking another vehicle. He had got “nothing to say” in his defence, telling magistrates he ran a small building firm and a ban would affect his ability to visit sites and organise work.
Barnes, of Buxton Way, Royal Wootton Bassett, pleaded guilty to speeding.
Imposing a 21 day driving ban, chairman of the bench Christine Smith said: “103mph in a 70 is not just nudging yourself over the speed limit.” He was fined £133 and ordered to pay £142 in costs and surcharge.
