This week, leader of Swindon Borough Council David Renard penned a letter asking billionaire Elon Musk to take over the soon-to-be-empty Honda site. Council cabinet member Dale Heenan also tweeted one of the the world’s richest men asking if he would be interested in opening up a new Tesla factory. Coun Heenan also shared some history on the town’s railway history including creating the now-famous Hogwarts Express. SpaceX entrepreneur Mr Musk has an estimated net worth of £120 billion. So far, he has not replied. Here’s what you said on Facebook:

Mike Floyd: “He’s already said Brexit made him change from UK to Germany.”

Phil Underwood: “Please no.

“We don’t want his plastic overpriced rubbish.”

Applepie Pieapple: “He will not be coming and he has other plans, and planets.”

Azodo Murphy: “I hope so.

“Swindon area’s gone quiet since Honda left.”

Andrew Perkins: “Since we do not have a mass car manufacturer that is British owned another one isn’t going to do any harm.

“Maybe UK exporting more cars into Europe in the future would be a very welcome change.”

James Reed: “When Biden raises corporation taxes, Boris should slash ours.

“Get the assets in and the capital markets flowing.”

Trevor Brant: “Approach him about the snow dome while we’ve got his interest.”

Saman Saman: “If he comes through Moonrakers roadworks, he will change his mind.”

Rob Weeks: “He’s already building a European plant in Berlin, that is perfectly capable of supplying the comparatively small number of cars that will be bought in the UK.

“No way he’ll build another plant in England.”

Peter Cavill: “Nope. The UK is a lesser market than the EU, with too much red tape to deal with.

“It’s easier to build in the EU, besides, Tesla have already said they are building a giga-factory in Germany.”

David Garmont: “He would arrive in a space capsule.”

Conor Allen: “If he is likely to buy a plant it’s going to be the Nissan plant in Sunderland as there is also a factory for battery production and the workforce is cheaper to employ.”

Taff Hughes: “Questions to which the answer is ‘no’, part 94.”

John Mccarthy: “He’d come and then drive past.

“He wouldn’t even stop to charge his car here.”

Mike McKeown: “Probably a long shot, but worth a try.

“They have found Lithium in Cornwall which could make the UK more attractive and the EU trade deal has zero per cent tariffs on cars made in the UK.

“The doubt on that was one of the main reasons Tesla went to Berlin rather than UK for the first Europe factory.”

Ivan Sawyer: “It’s a hilarious letter.

“Like your Nan writing to Bill Gates asking him if he can help install Microsoft Word.”

Lee Greenshields: “Alternative headline: Councillor throws out tweet that won’t be seen by world’s second richest man.”

Muni Muddhar: “Why not? It’s a car manufacturing site.

There’s lots of on site parking, close to major road network, would be great for the town and the UK economy.”

Jon Grainge: “May luck be with you.”

Brian Hill: “This will get Britain in the car market, which is the future.”

Adrian Holmes: “Rocket launch pad?”

Tom McCready: “I hope so.”

Peter Battrick: “Who would he sell them to?”

Morten Lynge: “If he’s got any sense, he won’t.”

Aman Verma: “Big up Elon Musk coming to Swindon.”

Tom Cameron: “I’ve tweeted him to launch him spaceship from my back garden.”
