Today is National Pothole Day in the UK and we want to hear from our readers about their pothole problems.

In 2017, Wiltshire Council spent a jaw-dropping £69m according to data obtained by MoneySuperMarket through a Freedom of Information request.

A total of 43,280 potholes have been reported to Wiltshire Council since January 2017, the research by MoneySuperMarket found.

Recently, the council told the Adver's sister title Gazette & Herald it was spending more on road maintenance than ever before and was putting a focus on stopping potholes blighting roads in the first place.

The number of reported potholes in Wiltshire increased by 30 per cent in 2019.

According to data from the World Economic Forum, the UK is ranked 37th in the world for road quality, thanks in part to the blight of potholes.

With the pandemic forcing people to stay at home and fewer cars on the roads, councils have the perfect opportunity to crack on with repairs.

The government even committed £2.5bn just for filling potholes in last year’s budget.

And while some local authorities got ahead of the game, it’s fair to say that cracks and craters in the road are still an everyday site.
