Swindon's hospital has released images of life in the Covid ICU ward.

The Great Western Hospital tweeted imaged of its staff in different types of PPE as they try to manage the coronavirus pandemic.

Swindon Advertiser:

Last week the hospital announced a critical incident as it was overwhelmed with Covid patients and was hoping to bring in extra staff to help.

GWH chief executive Kevin McNamara said: "We are in a very precarious position because our projections show that the number of people in hospital will continue to increase through to the end of this month, so our focus is on making sure we can care for all patients, not just Covid but non-Covid as well.

“I appreciate there will be people who had operations cancelled since the first wave and were hoping to get treated quite soon but this creates additional pressure for the trust."

Today it revealed that 159 patients were being cared for with 12 of those in the ICU.
