A driver in his 50s died in a crash on the M4 last night. 

Wiltshire Police said the emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving a single vehicle on the motorway westbound between junctions 16 and 17 at around 7.15pm on Monday. 

The driver, a 53-year-old Bristol man, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "His next of kin have been informed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

The westbound stretch of the M4 between junctions 16 and 17 was shut for six hours.
